Pool Renovation Ideas

Aug 27, 2019

The fall and winter are the best time of year to do a pool renovation for many reasons. First, you won’t be swimming (or at least swimming as much) during the cooler months. Second, fewer days with those pesky afternoon thunderstorms means a shorter timeline to project completion (which is also why fall and winter are better seasons to remodel outdoors than our typically-wetter spring season). By gathering your thoughts and ideas now, while swimming is fresh on your mind, you’ll be ready to dive into a renovation project when the time is right.

If you have the opportunity, visit some neighbors houses or stop by new home builds and scope out the pools. This see-for-yourself approach will not only inspire new ideas, but may also put your existing ideas into reality.

Some hot design ideas trending right now include:

  • A small footbridge connecting opposite sides of the pool at a narrow point in the pool. This adds a regal touch from an aesthetic standpoint as well as serving a functional need. Not to mention the shady spot it creates while you’re in the water – a perfect hideout from the sun or the ideal spot for a game of hide-and-seek.
  • Fire features are very hot right now – yes, pun intended! There’s something about the contrasting elements of fire and water that make combining them so appealing. Add a fire pit beside your hot tub area or install a sheer flame behind a waterfall feature.
  • Adding in-pool seating areas are convenient and comfortable. Whether you have an outdoor kitchen or not, adding a swim-up bar will make your pool feel like a tropical resort. Bathing ledges or sun ledges are also great for submerged sitting – keeping you cool while you relax in a stationary position.
